exploring the patterns within
Inspired by the groundbreaking work of Dr. Juliet Emamuallee at USC’s Keck School of Medicine, this project translates the complex science of spatial biology into a paint-by-numbers piece. Drawing from her research on pediatric liver transplants and immune cell mapping, I created a blank template with numbered segments, inviting viewers to actively participate by filling in the colors themselves. This interactive and approachable format makes a highly technical subject accessible to a wider audience, while maintaining its scientific integrity.
My project was created as part of USC’s Artist & Researcher Program, an initiative that pairs Roski School of Art & Design students with Keck researchers to explore new ways of visualizing complex scientific research. This fall, my piece will be installed in the Saban Research Institute at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
